It Should Be Right Here (Pursuit part 2)
The parable of the lost coin hits differently—because the coin didn’t run off, it was simply misplaced. It didn’t rebel; it was just lost in the house. Like us. Sometimes we find ourselves feeling lost—not because we’ve left God, but because we’ve misplaced things like our identity, purpose, or security. And just like the woman searching for the coin, God doesn’t stop looking. He’s not just in the business of finding the lost—He’s all about restoring what’s been misplaced. Your story, your worth, your place still matter to Him.
KEY VERSES:
- Luke 15:8–10
- Luke 15:1–2
- 1 Samuel 16:7
- Romans 5:6
- Psalm 119:105
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Context: Luke 15 is Jesus' response to religious leaders upset that He spent time with "sinners."
- Lost in the House: The second parable tells of a woman who loses a coin—not outside, but inside her home (Luke 15:8–10).
- The Coin Didn’t Rebel: It wasn’t lost because of bad behavior—it was misplaced and helpless to fix itself.
- We Misplace Things Too: Like dependence on God, our identity, security, trust, and sense of belonging.
- Being Near Isn’t the Same as Being Right: You can be in church, know the Bible, follow rules, and still be lost (Romans 5:6).
- God is a Relentless Seeker: He lights a lamp (at a cost), sweeps the house, and searches with passion and love.
- Restoration, Not Just Recovery: The coin represented a dowry—part of the woman’s identity, future, and dignity.
- What God Wants to Restore: Your purpose, peace, security, and relationship with Him (Psalm 119:105).
- Celebration in Heaven: God Himself rejoices when one is found—not just angels, but God in front of the angels.
TALK ABOUT IT:
- Have I ever felt “lost” even while doing all the right things?
- What part of my life or identity might be misplaced right now?
- Do I really trust God with my peace, my security, and my purpose?
- Why is it easy to confuse religious activity with a right relationship with God?
- How has God pursued me in my mess and darkness?
- What would it look like to let Him restore what’s been broken or hidden?
- Am I more focused on appearing spiritual or actually being close to God?
- Who do I know that might feel "lost in the house," and how can I help them feel seen?
APPLY IT:
- Ask God to show you if something in your life has been misplaced—identity, security, trust, etc.
- Stop relying on religious habits and check the condition of your heart.
- Let Jesus light the lamp—read His Word and invite His truth into the dark places of your heart.
- Remember: being around God’s people doesn’t automatically mean you’re close to God.
- Be honest about what you’re trusting in—success, people, performance—and shift that trust back to God.
- Celebrate stories of restoration. Share yours when you're ready—it helps others find hope.
